What are the symptoms of lead exposure?

Lead poisoning symptoms Most children with lead poisoning do not show any outward symptoms unless levels become extremely high; therefore, the majority of cases go undiagnosed and untreated. There may be non-specific complaints, however, such as headaches, stomachaches, nausea, lethargy, trouble sleeping, irritability and constipation. Since these symptoms are so similar to common viruses and flus, the only way to know for sure if a child has lead poisoning is to perform a simple blood test.

Symptoms in adults are more pronounced. Adults often suffer from mood swings, irritability, severe abdominal pain, headaches and loss of motor coordination.
